As soon as the exterior panels of the lower floor were in place, the Cube becomes a temporary bedroom. A stack of plywood panels earmarked for the upper floor provide a sleeping platform

The open framing provides a convenient nook for creature comforts during construction

A temporary electrical supply via extension cord from the powers the fridge, but cooking still requires a camp stove

Copper pipes for hot and cold water run exposed in the ceiling

With wiring and plumbing in place insulation panels are installed

Insulation continues upstairs and the shutters are secured with bolts during a windstorm

Test fitting the media items

Turning the room divider—necessary to support the roof structure—but awkwardly space-confining into a useful object by housing a media center in it.

The completed media center

Drywall, light fixtures now in place in the living room area

An opening in the ceiling from downstairs to the upper floor with a gallery. Looped cables provide a railing

Now the living room area is painted after tedious and messy plastering and paint preparation

Finished paintwork on the upper floor

A small opening in the parapet to view the rising sun. Cube visitors need no alarm clock

A mirror for the bathroom sink

The stairwell is plastered and all inside edges painted with a brush

A view of the stairwell from below. A ray of sunlight projects a circle from the window onto the opposite wall

The gallery and parapet is now painted

Looped cable railing at the gallery with turnbuckles

Nooks in the living formed formed by exposed framing members

A perky paint scheme for the bathroom. The toilet is sat at 45° to save space
